Mortimer’s Odyssey is a story about Brownie’s father. Brownie was half Australian Shepherd and half long haired dachshund.
Mortimer is the prized dachshund of Fred and Jane Best’s Dachshunds. Through a mistake made by Fred, Mortimer sneaks out of his pen and leaves the breeding barn while Fred contemplates the beauty of the rolling hills and starry sky of Northeast Indiana one Sunday evening in late April.
Mortimer follows his nose out into the farm field next to Fred and Jane’s place. He falls into one of the furrows and falls asleep. This starts an adventure which takes the little dog on a wild ride over the next several weeks. Needless to say, it is not all peaches and cream.
