In George-Ville, everyone had a dog. The town was founded by George Miller, a breeder of Newfoundland Dogs way back in the 1870s.
George was a Civil War veteran who was saved by one during one of the battles he fought in. He never forgot his buddy Aaron. After a few years working on farms and in cities, George saved enought to buy a small twenty acre farm in Northern Indiana and began his breeding business.
Many of his Civil War buddies discovered George’s Newfoundland dogs and purchased one. He attracted other breeders to the area and began selling parcels of his land to them so they could set up their own breeding farms. A town gradually grew up around George and his fellow breeders.
Because he started the first breeding business and attracted the others, it was decided to name the new town George-Ville in his honor.
